How to point your downloads to the downloads folder

Some people were asking at Tech Tuesday yesterday how to make it so downloads don't go onto the desktop. I created a short screencast showing how.

You may not have a downloads folder. You can just create one, then follow the same steps from the video.

Some of what was brought up:

The key with the Apple on it is called the "Command" key. When talking about keyboard shortcuts, it is shortened to "cmd." If I write a keyboard shortcut as "cmd+q" you would hit both of those at the same time. I suggest getting used to hitting the cmd key with your left thumb.

Some keyboard shortcuts to note:

• cmd+Q = Quit. This works in every application you open on your Mac.
• cmd+W = Close a window/tab. This works in every application on your Mac. It will close the window you have open. If you are in Safari or Firefox, it will close the current tab you have open.
• cmd+N = New. This works in any application that creates new things, but what it creates depends on the application. In Safari or Firefox, it will create a new window. In Word, it will create a new document. In Mail, it will create a new message.
• cmd+S = Save. This works in every app on that saves things. In Word, it saves your current file. 
• cmd+C = Copy. This copies whatever is selected to the clipboard.
• cmd+V = Paste. This pastes whatever is on the clipboard to your document wherever your cursor is.
